The Cult of Beauty: The Aesthetic Movement and Interior Design

::HOT TOPIC::

Design SF 2012
Wednesday, Feb 1
2:30 – 3:30 PM
SFDC Galleria Atrium

You are invited to join 3D – Definitive Design + Decor magazine Editor-in-Chief, Alisa Carroll, for a compelling conversation about the Aesthetic Movement and its inspired interior design legacy.

The Cult of Beauty:  The Victorian Avant-Garde, 1860-1900, opens at the Legion of Honor on February 18.  The exhibition has been wildly popular in Europe, where it debuted at the V&A (the Legion of Honor is its only U.S. venue). The panel will feature exhibition curator Lynn Federle Orr, Curator-in-Charge of European Art at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, design editor and writer Zahid Sardar and interior designer Geoffrey De Sousa.

The Aesthetic movement championed “Art for art’s sake” and the cultivation of beauty in everyday life.  Though it began in the realm of fine art, the movement ultimately transcended the walls of painters’ studios to transform decorative arts, domestic interiors and architecture, inspiring a lifestyle revolution and giving birth to the modern interior design industry.
