Khrome Studios Relocates
::HOT TOPIC::
Khrome Studios is pleased to announce the addition of its newest showroom at the SFDC, Showplace 305. This new location provides Khrome Studio’s dedicated staff a larger space (an additional 2700 sq. feet) and is right off the third floor elevator meaning easier access and higher visibility to display its unique, contemporary home furnishings. Gioi Tran from the San Francisco based design firm Applegate Tran is leading the showroom design and build-out. Everyone at Khrome Studios and Applegate Tran is thrilled to be working on this collaboration.
After making a lateral market move with her Direct Designs Home business in 1991, by converting operations to sell directly to designers and architects, Ms. McMullen learned anything was possible. “We have a passion for design, and over the years we have tried everything, from a ‘lab-rat area’, where the furniture wouldn’t sell no matter what we did to it; to a ‘goosebump showcase’ named for that particular sensation I had when I saw something I loved”, said McMullen. This passion has evolved to what is now Khrome Studios’ unique Euro-style lines and private label modern collections that will be on display at this new designer showroom. HAUTE DOG | SF – A RUNWAY FASHION SHOW
::HOT TOPIC::
Friday, February 3rd
5:30 – 8:30 PM
SFDC Galleria Atrium
On February 3rd, 2012, fashion history will be made. San Francisco’s most fashionable pooches will strut their stuff on the catwalk, (or is it dogtrot?) as they showcase couture outfits designed specifically for them by some of the Bay Area’s most prominent interior designers, and with oh-so-fabulous fabrics provided by the fabric showrooms of the SFDC. Trust us, you’ll be howling with delight at the antics of these doggie fashionistas. Canine obsessives and fanatics will be able to Posh Pup Lane, an emporium of doggie delights featuring unique canine products, services, specialties and gift items for the pooch who has everything.
To cap it off, a silent auction will feature doggie experiences never before witnessed in the annals of Dogdom. Be a bold bidder as we support Canine Companions for Independence, the event’s official charity and an organization that provides highly-trained assistance dogs for children and adults with disabilities, free of charge.
If you’re a dog lover, as we are, and believe in the power of a dog’s ability to transform the lives of disabled children, adults and veterans, please join us in a fun and festive event MC’d by Wilkes Bashford to welcome Canine Companions for Independence to San Francisco. As our friends at CCI would say, “Help is a four-legged word™.
This event is complimentary for Design professionals, please RSVP to rsvp@sfdesigncenter.com. Non-design professionals may go here to purchase a ticket for $15. Sponsored by 7×7 magazine and the Luxury Marketing Council of San Francisco. If you cannot attend the event but would like to donate, please go here.
Brentano – 2012 Color Forecast
::HOT TOPIC::
Donghia, Inc.
SFDC Galleria #144
The end of the year is always filled with reflection, as well as anticipation, for what the next year will bring. In this year’s annual color forecast, Brentano looks back on the successes and trends of 2011 and predicts what’s in store for the interior design world in 2012. To do this, the Brentano design department evaluates their previous and upcoming collections, consults their sales team about client requests, and gathers to discuss what they’ve observed lately in the world of design.
As a leader in designer textiles in a range of beautiful colors, Brentano knows that interior design colors do not change as rapidly as those in fashion. As Brentano Design Director Iris Wang points out—this is a positive aspect; otherwise, everyone would be pressured to change upholstery fabric and drapery with far too much frequency. Additionally, interior design relies on base colors, often hues of tried-and-true neutrals, to create a classic palette. However, she points out that there are always slight changes, as well as fun new additions that can be added to an interior through use of accent pieces, such as chair backs and pillows.
The six colors singled out for 2012 include: Marine – A continuation from 2011, Marine is a navy that plays up the rich, jewel-toned aspect of the color while keeping true to its classic appeal. Sprout – This bright, yellow-green shade is perfect for livening up an atmosphere. Use it for accent pieces to give interiors a fun, current twist. Tangerine – A saturated orange with a touch of red, tangerine offers a fresh counterpart to sophisticated neutrals. Paper White – 2011 saw a move from creamier neutrals to this “true white” that is pure, clean, and luxurious—the perfect basic to continue using in 2012. Graphite – While Brentano’s 2011 color forecast called for silvery, platinum hues, 2012 will see grays shifting to a darker charcoal that looks beautiful with colors (such as deep yellows and purples), or pairs perfectly with neutral shades. Linen – Linen looks beautiful as a crisp white or dyed a vibrant color, but also has a natural appeal in its unprocessed, raw form. Its comforting, clean feel works as a neutral, but also offers stunning warmth that makes it the perfect color for a subtle palette.
Why Interior Designers Need to Know About QR Codes
::HOT TOPIC::
Beryn Hammil knows her stuff. She’s not only an interior designer but a self-proclaimed chic-geek propeller hat wearing techy. If you follow her blog, Facebook or Twitter, it’s a wonder she has the time to do anything, besides inform her followers on the latest and greatest tips and tricks of the tech world.
One subject in particular that we feel is important for designers to learn about is a unique bar code called a QR code. You’ve seen them before and maybe overlooked the tiny square or didn’t know (or care) what they were…well, according to Beryn, if you haven’t already, you must start using a QR code reader app on your smartphone.
Don’t know what a QR code is? Don’t know why you need to know how to use it? Find out here!
