Design Resource Day
May 9, 2012
11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
SFDC Galleria

Hundreds of interior designers and 50+ design-related businesses from Northern California will come together for Design Resource Day and the Design Excellence Awards! The Northern California Chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and The Luxury Marketing Council of San Francisco are hosting the combined events in the SFDC Galleria. This year, the event’s theme is the America’s Cup and how it is altering the design of the San Francisco waterfront. A speaker from the America’s Cup organization will give an overview of the changes now underway for the 2013 race.
This free event open to the public, brings designers and suppliers together for informative face-to-face meetings to showcase their latest products and services. Attendees can tour the booths to learn what’s new in the interior design marketplace and expand their resource base.
The Design Excellence Awards ceremony will also take place on May 9th from 12:00 – 1:30 PM in the SFDC Galleria. The competition, which is open to ASID members, student members and industry partners, honors excellence in residential, commercial and product design. For Design Excellence Awards entry forms, Design Resource Day booth sales, or luncheon reservations, contact the ASID Chapter Office at 415.626.2743 or asidcan@earthlink.net.

The American Decorative Arts Forum would very much like to be on your March 2011 calendar for this upcoming lecture by the distinguished Dr. David Barquist.
The 17th and 18th centuries, “looking glass” was the common name for “mirrors”, which were costly luxuries in the pre-industrial period. Dr. David Barquist, curator of decorative arts for the Philadelphia Museum of Art , in his illustrated presentation to the American Decorative Arts Forum, documents their usage in American Interiors for the 17th to the mid-19th centuries following fashions set in Europe. In addition to reflecting the light, looking glasses were a very important status symbol and a significant element of high-style American Interiors.
